Tip:
Watch DVDs in French, with either French or English subtitles, and listen to the way they say words.
Alternatively, listen to a French language song and find the words on the internet and get a grasp of how the words are pronounced. Personally, I like the artist "M."

Year 10 speaking coursework will be carried out in January. We are currently writing and improving our pieces. Here are some pointers on pronunciation, which will also be useful for year 11.

French Pronunciation guide

· ONLY pronounce the following CONSONANTS at the end of words- C R F and L.
To help remember this, think of the word CaReFuL.

· “vert” is pronounced “ver,” but if there is an “e” at the end of the word, we pronounce the consonant before it, e.g. “verte” is pronounced “vert”

· Sometimes we need to join words up to make them sound better. This usually happens when one word ends in an “s” and the next word starts with a vowel.
e.g. “les yeux” is pronounced “lez year”

• In French we like the gutteral "r." This means it comes from around the back of your throat. This is very different to the Spanish "r" which is rolled and comes from the front of the mouth.
